We plan to hold four outings in May to clear our section of the Long Trail (LT) before summer hikers hit the trails. We clear from Jonesville to Butler Lodge (on the west side of Mt. Mansfield), and also clear side trails if enough willing volunteers show up.
Send Us Your Trail Reports
Let us know if you find any trail problems when you hike. It certainly helps when we have reports on trail conditions before the work outing.

On May 6 well begin with the Bolton Notch to Jonesville piece and continue from Bolton Notch north if we have enough volunteers. Weather (snow melt or snowstorms?) and elevation determine the order for clearing different lengths of trail. A fifth hike is scheduled for National Trails Day, June 3.
Work includes clipping, cleaning water bars, and cutting and removing trees and branches. Experience is not necessary but much appreciated! We have plenty of tools, but bring your own if you have a good pair of loppers or other tools.
Also, be sure to bring food and water since outings can be quite long. We vary from finishing at 1 PM to 6 PM, plus the drive home.
John Sharp and I hope to have a good turn-out to help us get through all the miles of trail. We may come off the trail feeling wet, muddy, and tired, but we also feel a lot of satisfaction from leaving a well-maintained trail.
