April 1999: Working collaboratively with local shellfishing experts and the Parker River Clean Water Association, the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission (MVPC) recently completed a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based coastal map series depicting the status and location of marine resources in the estuaries of Ipswich, Rowley and Newbury. The focus of the project was to develop current maps depicting the soft-shell clam resources, water quality classification status, and acreages of individual flats. The maps also include data layers showing the approximate locations of Oyster, Lobster, Mussel and Surf Clam resources.
